Yorkshire: Swine flu deaths double in fortnight
Deaths related to swine flu in Yorkshire have almost doubled in two weeks, new figures show.
Health bosses have urged people not to panic after the number of patients who died with the disease rose from nine to 16.
Seven of those died between October 29 and November 11.
Their identities are not being released, though they did have underlying health problems.
Prof Paul Johnstone, regional director of public health at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "There is no need to panic but this underlines the importance of all those in at risk groups to have the vaccination when contacted by their GP."
Over the past fortnight 76 patients were admitted to Leeds hospitals with flu-like symptoms while a total of 44 were taken in to hospitals in Wakefield, Pontefract or Dewsbury.
