The 6m facility at Wortley Beck Health Centre was inaugurated by John Battle.

The new centre is a one-stop shop for health, providing several key medical services under one roof.

The building, which was already operating ahead of its official opening, houses two GP practices as well as several primary care services including mental health, district nursing and children's services. There is also an on-site pharmacy.

Christine Outram, chief executive of Leeds Primary Care Trust, said: "This new centre will help transform healthcare facilities for local people as well as providing staff with 21st century surroundings to work in.

"This is the seventh health centre to be built under the LIFT scheme, a partnership between the public and private sector."

Mr Battle said: "This new building provides high quality local healthcare in a modern environment for all the people of Wortley and the neighbouring areas."
