Work starts on new school for Wortley pupils

Work has started on a new multi-million pound state-of-the-art school for Wortley High pupils.

The school will replace West Leeds and Wortley High Schools when they merge in September 2009.

It is being built in the grounds of West Leeds High School on Congress Mount in Armley.

The school is being built as part of a 250m Building Schools for the Future project which will see new schools built at Cockburn and Temple Moor as well as four other schools refurbished in the city.

Headteacher at Wortley High School, Gill Knutson, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity not only for the students in West Leeds and Wortley but also for the local community.

"As a joint Technology and Arts College the school will be unique in the area, offering technology and arts facilities of the highest quality."

Leeds City Council, Education Leeds and the government's Partnership 4 Schools have joined forces with Interserve-led consortium Environments 4 Learning (E4L) to design, build and maintain the facilities, and RM Education plc to provide technology that will help support teaching and learning in the schools.
