Whinmoor Juniors: Work to drain pitches gets green light
Whinmoor Juniors are celebrating after work to drain their football pitches received the green light.

Councillor Peter Gruen successfully persuaded colleagues on the Area Committee to provide 10,000 towards the project, which will vastly enhance drainage at the same time as improving the playing fields.
Councillor Gruen has extended his thanks to all those organisations who have provided funding for the initiative, as well as The Skelton Woods Environment Group which continues to plan ways to protect the woodland for both local people and wildlife.
Councillor Peter Gruen (Lab, Crossgates & Whinmoor Ward) said: "I am delighted that this project has finally got the go-ahead and that the Area Committee agreed to provide much needed funding. The work will make a big difference to both kids using the football pitches, and local people who use the woods.
"The drainage on the playing fields that back onto Skelton Woods was a real concern for the local football clubs, as well as residents and councillors. We were determined to tackle it for the benefit of the whole community, so it is great to see such a positive outcome.
He added: "Over the last few years I have supported all efforts to improve public access to Skelton Woods, protect the habitat for wildlife and encourage links with local schools. I can assure local people I remain absolutely committed to continuing this work in the future."
