Wheatfields Hospice: Fundraiser close to £10,000 target
A widow who pledged to spend 2008 raising funds for Headingley's Wheatfields Hospice has almost hit her target of £10,000 – months after vowing to repay the "angels" who cared for her husband.

Christine Mabbett, 58, has raised 9,002 from a series of events in memory of her husband Garry, who died at the hospice in June 2007 after a three-year fight against a brain tumour.
With the help of sons Lee, 38, and Paul, 26, who took part in a gruelling triathlon to raise extra funds, Christine organised a memorial evening for 130 guests at the Met Hotel in Leeds city centre, last Saturday.
In March, she hosted a Race Night in her home town of Morley and in May completed the Leeds Hospices Midnight Walk, which raises funds for Wheatfields in Headingley and St Gemma's in Moortown.
There was also a Race Night to mark the first anniversary of Garry's death in June, which raised almost 1,000.
All the money goes to the Garry Mabbett Tribute Fund, then passed over to Wheatfields.
Christine said: "Garry called the nurses his angels and after he died my sons and I said we'd have to do something to say thank you to Wheatfields, as they were fantastic.
"The memorial evening raised 1,435, which took us one step closer to the 10,000. The Mayor and Mayoress of Morley also attended and drew the raffle, which was a big honour. It was lovely."
