Steven is the proud owner of a 1938 Austin, a 1998 Jaguar XJ8, and a 1950 Jowett that was manufactured in Bradford, and which he restored from scrap.

He has kept it in mint condition by having parts made-to-order.

Michael bought a 1991 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit II three weeks ago to fulfil a long-time dream.

"This has been a lifelong ambition, to buy a Rolls Royce," he said. "I enjoy looking after cars and washing them. They will always be in immaculate condition."

The idea to raise money with the vehicles by renting them out as wedding cars was Steven's, but after Michael bought his dreammobile he decided he wanted in.

The two semi-retirees wanted to give something back to the hospice as a thank you for the way people close to them have been treated there.

"In the last couple of years I have had four friends who have spent their last days being cared for by St Gemma's, and it's my way of repaying them," said Steven.

Michael, whose father died in St Gemma's in 1987, said: "They were absolutely fantastic. It's a fabulous place, they do a fabulous job, and if I can do a little to help then it's my pleasure."

Prices range from 150 for the Austin to 250 for a Rolls Royce. 50 to 70 will be donated to the hospice, while the rest will go toward maintaining and fuelling the thirsty gas-guzzlers.

Steven said: "They aren't easy on petrol, so we charge a small amount for it."

Laura Robinson, fundraiser for St Gemma's Hospice, said: "We are grateful to Steve and Michael.

"They are lovely cars and will make the couple's day special, as well as helping support St Gemma's patients."

To any brides or grooms to be, Michael says: "Have a really good day, and come see us because it's for a very good cause."
