Video: New chapter opens at Leeds's one-stop shop
Council chiefs have invested £5m in a "one-stop-shop" offering people expert advice and support on everything from jobs and mental health problems to cash worries.
The Compton Centre, Harehills, combines council services and health facilities in new premises all under one roof.
Its team are there to provide help with everything from welfare benefits, to council tax, housing, social care, and environment-related issues. Residents will also be able to find out more about services offered by community organisations such as the Leeds Credit Union.
Counselling
There will also be a Jobshop where people can get help with getting back to work or receive advice on training.
NHS Leeds Community Healthcare's Primary Care Mental Health Team will offer counselling and support to any patients referred to the service by their family doctor .
The centre was officially opened by Leeds City Council Leader Coun Keith Wakefield.
He said: "This centre will be at the forefront of how the council works with and helps the local community by improving their access to
employment, training, housing, library and other council services.
"It is an excellent example of what can be achieved by working in partnership and a fantastic way of addressing the needs of local people."
The Compton Centre is one of two such facilities in Leeds currently being developed.
The other will open in Chapeltown in the autumn.
Both are being provided by Community Ventures Leeds Limited, a public private partnership joint venture company jointly funded by Leeds City Council and NHS Leeds.
