Video: Belle Isle pupils stage Michael Jackson's Thriller on streets
Spooky schoolchildren 'thrilled' local residents and parents by dancing in the streets.
Youngsters donned wigs and scary costumes to create their very own version of the Michael Jackson classic, Thriller.
The 80s hit song and video has had many famous remakes including a version by prisoners in the Philippines and an entire wedding party.
But yesterday residents who live near the Leeds school peered from behind their curtains to catch a glimpse of the dancing year five and six pupils.
They were led by teacher Claire Waddington as the rest of the school, who were dressed up as goblins and ghouls, looked on.
Headteacher Sally Sumpner was delighted with the performance, which has been held for the last four years.
She said: "Parents love to see the children taking part and it is just about getting out into the community.
"There is a really good spirit in the school and everyone enjoys their work."
The dance was created by Mrs Waddington as part of a year six leaver's assembly but the school decided to roll it out in the community.
The teacher said: "The children get really excited about the dance and they look forward to having the opportunity to take part.
"We make sure that any child can do the dance if they want to and they have so much commitment."
Dyson Nicholson, 10, who came to school dressed as a devil, also took part in the dance last year.
He said: "It is good. I do lots of practice at home. I know all the moves from last year and we have even helped the younger ones."
Sinead Payn, nine, performed the dance for the first time and said: "I couldn't wait because when I was in year four I wanted to do it and thought that the dance was brill.
"It makes me feel happy to be able to perform to everyone else."
The video for Thriller was released on December 2, 1983, at the same time as the song and was directed by John Landis, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jackson.
