Tom Reid: Fundraising night in memory of Garforth student proves a success

A fundraising night in memory of a Garforth teenager who died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart condition has raised more than £1,000.

The Tomfest 2010 event was held at the Elbow Rooms in Leeds to help the family of 19-year-old Tom Reid.

His parents Antony and Halina Reid were devastated when popular student Tom collapsed and died at a nightclub event for students at University College London last September.

Tests showed he had died of a condition known as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

His parents have since launched a fundraising drive as well as raising awareness about the number of young people whose lives are cut short each year.

The Tomfest event raised 1,171 from door sales, a raffle and sales of memorabilia and around 200 people attended.
