The rewards of volunteering in focus in Cross Gates

The rewards and frustrations of volunteering were the focus of a special Crossgates and District Good Neighbours Scheme event. Click here for more details.

The event, attended by 18 volunteers and management, provided opportunity for discussion, feeback and new ideas about the work the Good Neighbours scheme carries out in the community as well as considering options for development.

Moira Flynn, scheme development worker, said: "There was general appreciation of the opportunity to do this and a sense that we need to meet more regularly if volunteers are to continue to feel fully involved and up to date with what is happening in the organisation. A monthly social opportunity was suggested along the lines of a quiz lunch.

"Games and quizzes ensured people mixed well and the lunch fuelled thought about the possibilities for development and expansion of our activities.

"People made the point that they didn't want to be confined to just one role necessarily, as volunteers and several people offered to contribute more time - an offer we hope to take up quickly.

Mrs Flynn added: "Our thanks go to HBOS whose grant provided the lunch on this day as well as funds for a volunteer recruitment event and to St Benedicts, Garforth, for the room."
