The future of Roundhay and Oakwood is in YOUR hands

Roundhay residents are once again being urged to help shape their area's future.

Roundhay Planning Forum is producing a Neighbourhood Design Statement and has already held one very successful workshop in November when volunteers spent six hours walking around part of Oakwood to collate information.

It is hoping for a similar responsewhen its next workshop is held on Saturday, January 19, at Roundhay Methodist Church off Oakwood Lane (10am-4pm) for residents living in Oakwood west.

Forum chairman, Mike Fox, said: "That people were quite happy to spend six hours doing this shows the level of commitment and interest. Many of them said it had been good to walk round their area and had brought home to them how fortunate they were to live in such a pleasant area.

"It had made them more dedicated than ever to preserve the essential character of the area, while recognising that change will come."

The Neighbourhood Design Statement is looking at the built environment, green spaces, transport links and leisure and cultural facilities.

It will be the first of its kind in Leeds which covers a whole ward and if accepted by the city council as a Supplementary Planning Document it will have to be taken into consideration when dealing with any planning applications.

Questionnaires have also been sent out to households in Roundhay asking for residents' views and over 800 have been returned and are now being analysed.
