Temple Newsam: Fungus foray proves a hit

The Fungus Foray, which took place across the Temple Newsam Estate, showcased a wide variety of fungus and rangers explained simple techniques to differentiate between them so that everyone could identify some by the end of the walk.

The tour covered two miles, with walkers discovering the fascinating range of shapes, textures, colours and smells that the unusual lifeforms produce.

Conservation work is now under way to protect mushrooms and toadstools as they come under increased threat from depleting woodlands and changes in agricultural practice.
