Suspended jail term for football assault
A substitute who punched a Old Headingfley AFC player's teeth out during an amateur football match has been given a suspended jail sentence.
William Lowther, 27, had only been on the pitch for Bradford based FC Dynamoes for five minutes when he punched Old Headingley FC player Paul Harrington in the face.

Leeds Crown Court heard the referee had blown for an apparent foul by Mr Harrington on Lowther in the 70th minute of the cup match last October 18 on a pitch at Stanningley.

Michael Smith, prosecuting said: "A free kick was awarded to the defendant but following that he simply turned around and struck Mr Harrington in the face, knocking out three teeth."

Mr Harrington later lost a fourth tooth which had to be removed by a dentist.
The court heard Lowther had stepped in at the last minute as a 'ringer' for FC Dynamoes because they were short of players.
Lowther of Tennyson Road, Wyke, Bradford, admitted assault.
Handing Lowther a 36-week prison sentence suspended for two years with six months supervision, Judge James Stewart QC told him: "Violence of this sort on the sports field is to be deplored. He will remember every day of his life this dreadful football match all because of your loutish behaviour."
Lowther must pay his victim 1,750 compensation.
Lowther was not registered to play for Dynamoes and had used a different name when he agreed to be a sub after going along to watch friends play.
The Amateur Football Association has already banned Lowther for five
years.
