Sugababes add spice to Party in the Park
HERE come the girls – that's the message to fans looking forward to the Party in the Park pop music extravaganza in Leeds.
Sugababes and Sophie Ellis Bextor were today confirmed on the bill for the free bash, taking place at Temple Newsam Park on Sunday, July 26.
One of the most successful girl groups of all time, Sugababes have clocked up 16 top 10 singles since they formed in 1998.
Disco princess Ellis Bextor, meanwhile, is best known for Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), a number one smash from 2000 which featured her vocals.
The acts join a line-up that already boasted stars such as Alesha Dixon, N-Dubz, JLS, Little Boots, Pixie Lott and The Noisettes.
Other names appearing include Agnes, DJ Ironik, Tinchy Stryder and Beverley Knight.
All 70,000 tickets for Party in the Park were snapped up in the space of just four days last month.
The event is being organised by Leeds City Council and 96.3 Radio Aire, with the support of the Yorkshire Evening Post.
It will be opened by the winner of the Party Idols competition, being run by the YEP.
The two up-and-coming bands fighting it out for the honour of taking to the stage on the big day are The Dolly Mixxtures and Shakinouts.
Party in the Park won't be the only free musical celebration at Temple Newsam over the weekend of July 25 and 26, however.
On the Saturday the estate will host Opera in the Park, featuring award-winning soloists Alfie Boe and Natasha Marsh.
The world-famous Hall Orchestra and the Leeds Festival Chorus will also appear, led by conductor David Parry.
For details on ticket availability for Opera in the Park, ring the Carriageworks complex on Millennium Square on 0113 224 3801.
