The winning design for West Yorkshire in the competition, run in partnership with Yellow Pages, came from Nadia Taha, a Year 5 pupil at St Chad's Church of England Primary School in Headingley.

Almost 300,000 children from across the UK planted daffodil bulbs last autumn and cared for them over winter while learning about the work done by Marie Curie nurses.

After the daffodils bloomed in March the children took part in the national Paint Your Mini Pot Day and took their pots home to someone they care about in return for a small donation to the charity.

Nadia won an Art & Go painting kit prize and 50 in book vouchers for her school.

Sue Loye, headteacher at St Chad's, said: "The children had a great time painting their mini pots and we are delighted Nadia has won.

"The whole school has been learning about the fantastic work of the Marie Curie nurses and has raised 405.21 for the charity."
