Slideshow: New Farnley photographer helps bring Africa to Leeds
A self-taught photographer from New Farnley is bringing a touch of Africa to Leeds this week when she holds her first ever formal exhibition.
Deborah Benbrook will display her artistic photographs from Kenya at the Emporium gallery, in Leeds.
The 36-year-old turned her hobby into a business just 18 months ago after being made redundant from her job at a bank. Now Deborah hopes her first major exhibition will be a success after previously selling images at Leeds Farmers' Market as well as Starbucks.
"I have never had any formal training before. I would say my images capture the essence of Kenya; the people, landscape and animals.
"I very much shoot from the heart. I do like to travel and get pictures that not everyone can have access to."
Deborah uses a professional digital camera to shoot with and says she doesn't like to spend hours manipulating images, adding: "A good picture speaks a thousand words by itself."
All the pictures up for sale at the exhibition are hand-signed and professionally produced.
The open evening will be held on April 2 from 6pm to 9pm at the Emporium gallery, 205 Chapeltown Road, Leeds.
