Gala organisers in Horsforth praised the sunshine which greeted this year's party last weekend.

Which was very different to last year, when monsoon conditions forced the annual Horsforth Gala to be held indoors.

Children gathered from local schools to start the parade which went along Town Street with butterflies on poles to mark this year's theme of flight.

The Gala Queen, Natalie Meachin, was centre stage at the event at Horsforth's Hall Park.

It was thought the gala would have to be cancelled because of the high prices for policing and road blocks.

Fortunately organisers were given the green light and the day was a success.

Organiser Dawn Collins said: "We were very, very lucky with the weather this year and the event was a huge success.

"The fun fair always helps and the parade, which is the highlight for me, led people down into the Gala.

"A collection of local groups performed in the entertainment arena.

"I would also like to thank our three main sponsors: Woodlands, Manning Stainton and Kobe for all their help."

Work will soon be underway to start the preparations for next year and if anyone would like to volunteer their time they should contact Neil Hunt on 07831482405.
