Zoe Mitchell, one of the organising team, who has lived in the area for more than 10 years, said: "The weather was good and that makes everybody want to come out of their homes and share in the fun.

"And the excitement about the football helped – there were a lot of England flags, lots of people wearing England shirts and a lot of kids getting their faces painted with St George's Cross.

"It's a very mixed community and important to for everybody to feel that they are part of it – and this goes a long way in doing that."

Katie Hall from Cleckheaton said:

"We came for the atmosphere and the food and all the things for the kids and the weather."

Katie's daughter Emily Waring, nine, said: "I like all the stalls and the little shows.

"And I had henna put on my hands. It's nice to find out about different cultures."
