Thompson, 30, of Copperfield Mount, Cross Green held the screwdriver blade to the woman's throat and demanded cash.

The court heard he fled after the terrified woman handed him 60.

Police traced drug addict Thompson through DNA evidence.

He had cut himself and left traces of blood on the broken kitchen window during the break-in at around 9pm on March 28.

Thompson admitted aggravated burglary and asked for 12 other burglaries and one offence of taking a vehicle without consent to be taken into consideration.

He is currently serving a three-and-half-year sentence imposed in April for burglary.
