They were Annie Myers and husband Andy Roddy.

And the couple did not hesitate to book their date at the house – just five weeks after getting engaged.

Annie said: "We wanted to be the first couple. It's a gorgeous building and as kids we have grown up around here. It's meant a lot to us to do it here and now especially, Temple Newsam will always be special."

The couple were pupils at Temple Moor High School where they first met.

But they didn't get together until they bumped into each other in a local pub.

Andy, 26, said they then began working together at Matalan where he is a sales manager and Annie is an admin manager.

Andy said: "We knew each other at school and we would both come and play here but we didn't really know each other. I used to sledge down the bottom so I've grown up here really.

"When I was younger I would never have imagined I was going to get married here.

It's been the best day of my life."

Temple Newsam has over 500 years of history behind it, including Royal links – for the house was the birthplace of the notorious Lord Darnley, second husband to Mary Queen of Scots.
