A road in Farnley has had £37,000 worth of funding allocated by council chiefs for a scheme to improve pedestrian safety through a series of traffic calming measures.

The funding, from the Council's Integrated Transport Scheme, has been earmarked in response to a survey carried out by Education Leeds which shows that over 80 children per day are using Lawns Lane to get to school at either Lawns Park Primary or Farnley Park High School.
Speed surveys have shown that traffic regularly exceeds the 30mph speed limit.

Speed calming flat topped humps are going to be introduced alongside improvements to signage to slow traffic down to a safe speed.
Additionally, a footpath, wide enough to accommodate cycles as well, is to be constructed to stop the need for pedestrians to continually cross the road.
However, pedestrian crossings will also be provided to ensure the safety of anyone who does need to cross the road.
Councillor Stuart Andrew (Con, Deputy Executive Member for Development) told Wortley Today: "I'm delighted that funding has been allocated for this work to be carried out. These measures will greatly improve the safety of all pedestrians using the lane, but, most importantly, will ensure the safety of the school children who use Lawns Lane everyday as part of their daily journey to school and back. I'm fully supportive of any measures that encourage children to adopt an active, healthy lifestyle."
