During a Sunday morning service, the new members affirmed their "faith in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit," and "in Jesus Christ as … Saviour and Lord…"

The whole congregation then welcomed the five new members by promising to support them as members and in their faith. Communion followed.

The new members, Joyce Holt, Alison Munro, Peter O'Brien, Emma Slater, and Stella Wallace each received a certificate and a prayer handbook – and handshakes and hugs from just about everyone in the congregation.

Rev David Pickering, minister at St Andrew's, told Roundhay Today: "Becoming a member is a special step forward in faith for people who come to church. It's a great joy and blessing to welcome new members.

"We thank God that St Andrew's is growing and now has 182 members – plus a large number of regular worshippers who we pray will become members in God's good time.

"Joyce, Alison, Peter, Emma and Stella have declared their commitment as Christians and taken on the privilege and responsibility of actively participating in the life and governance of St Andrew's and the wider United Reformed Church, as part of the universal Christian church. It's an open invitation to everyone who follows the Lord Jesus."
