In fact, a pair proved so irresistible to one fan in Leeds, that she stole the rose-tinted rims off his nose before sheepishly returning them to police the next day.
But the 81-year-old has donated two of his favourite pairs to the Sightsavers International charity's Specs Appeal.
The glasses go up for auction today on internet auction site E-bay along with second-hand spectacles from 23 other celebrities.
Sir Michael Caine has donated an iconic pair from the 1960s, pop star George Michael some trendy Chanel shades and Ewan McGregor his brown reading specs.
The Leeds legend handed over some orange-rimmed, oval shaped glasses from his DJing days in the 1970s as well as a pair of slightly less glamorous blue NHS glasses.
Sir Jimmy said: "Without my specs I would be completely lost! I would bump into things. So I know how important it is to have a decent pair.
"The glasses I've donated will be carrying my vibes and I apologize now to whoever ends up wearing them as they will become an object of attention and a sex symbol."
The auctions begin at 10am today, and close on Sunday, August 24, at 10am.
