Roundhay design plan on way

Activists fighting to preserve Roundhay's character hope to finalise their policies by next June.

They are preparing a neighbourhood design statement which will provide extra planning guidance. The statement will set out what residents want to see.

Roundhay Planning Forum recently staged an exhibition visited by 150 people.

"It continued beyond closing time because of the level of interest," said forum chairman Mike Fox, former city councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor.

"A senior planning officer who attended said he was impressed by our work and looked forward to seeing the draft document."

When finished the document will then be sent to Leeds City Council for approval.

Mr Fox said: "This has been the largest exercise in Neighbourhood Design Statement planning in the whole of Leeds and has inevitably taken time. We are confident the city will benefit from our work."
