Rothwell: Hundreds enjoy annual May Day celebration
Hundreds flocked to Rothwell's Springhead Park to enjoy a carnival atmosphere at the popular annual May Day celebration.
The event, which has been running for 12 years, is one of the best-attended local festivals in the city and attracts more than 1,000 each year.
The celebrations included fairground rides, stalls, music and local children dancing around the maypole.
And nine-year-old Aimee Worrilow was crowned this year's May Queen as the centrepiece of the event.
Diane Chapman, treasurer of the Rothwell and District Carnival Committee, told the YEP: "It's a whole new committee organising the event this year so it's been challenging but we'll keep doing it as long as local residents want it."
The YEP reported last year that the carnival was one of several at risk in Leeds due to organisers being fed up with constant red tape.
But councillors secured funding from Leeds City Council to help guarantee the future of the popular local event.
