Rooms with a floral view in Calverley
Residents at Champion House and St Luke's residential home in Calverley will soon have rooms with a rather special view.
Councillor Frank Robinson, chairman of the Leeds Floral Initiative, has donated one hundred City of Leeds tulip bulbs to be planted in their gardens and containers. Both residential homes are charitable organisations which look after disabled people.
The City of Leeds tulip is only donated to charitable bodies helping the people of Leeds.
Coun Robinson said: "The residents of Champion House will appreciate the City of Leeds tulips especially as they are helping to celebrate Leeds' 800th anniversary. During spring, the tulips will provide a lovely show of bright pink."
The City of Leeds tulip was adopted during the 1993 Centenary Celebrations.
This tulip, which grows 40-50cm high, is a good bedding variety, in the Triumph/Mid Season Classification and is a bright Satin Cerise in colour.
The City of Leeds tulip has been awarded a Gold Class Certificate (best in show) at the prestigious European Horticultural Flower Festival.
