Rodley play area gets major facelift
Children in Rodley will soon be enjoying a top quality play area after council chiefs confirmed plans for a major upgrade of a local park.
Brookfield Recreation Ground and its football pitches are a popular attraction with local youngsters, but the park's play equipment has seen better days. That is all set to change however, after the Council confirmed funding is in place to give the area a 120k facelift.
The public were consulted in June about what they thought of the plans for the park and now many of their wishes look set to be granted with the revamp given the go-ahead to the delight of the local Councillors.
The new-look park will include high quality play equipment for 8-13 year olds as well as entertainment aimed at older children. There will also be new seats and signs installed, making the area more attractive to all.
Councillor Andrew Carter (Con, Calverley & Farsley and Joint Leader of Leeds City Council) said: "This is a major investment in a local facility with real potential. The consultation event we held in June was a huge success, with lots of people giving us great ideas about what they want to see in their park. I am delighted we are now in a position to make this a reality. One of the main benefits, of course, will be to ensure that this green area remains public green space in the future, and for years to come, local people will be able to enjoy a well maintained and well equipped park.
Play areas across the city have suffered from under investment in the past, but our administration is now putting this right. This project will see some great new equipment for youngsters of all ages. I am sure the new look recreation ground will be a real hit. "
Councillor Joseph Marjoram (Conservative, Calverley & Farsley) said:
"Brookfield Recreation Ground is in need of a serious makeover so it is great news that this work is going ahead. The new equipment will be of the highest quality and will make the park a really popular place to go for young people. We are also installing features such as new seating, which will hopefully make the park an attractive destination to people of all ages. This is a significant investment which will give local residents a park they can be proud of."
Councillor Frank Robinson (Conservative, Calverley & Farsley) said:
"Upgrading Brookfield Recreation Ground is something that we have been working on for some time now. We are always looking to improve the facilities on offer to residents in our ward and upgrading play facilities for our youngsters has been a priority. It is great to hear that the funding is now in place and this work is going ahead. The feedback we got from local residents in June was really positive so it will be great to see the project come to fruition."
