Police hunt gunman who blasted Harehills house

A gunman who blasted a Harehills house injuring two people was being hunted by detectives today.

Police sealed off part of Darfield Avenue after a shotgun was fired into the front door of a terrace house in the street.

The blast blew a hole in the door and wounded two men inside the house in what police believe was a targeted attack, shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday.

It is believed the two injured men aged 29 and 44 were taken by ambulance to hospital where they were treated and were later discharged.

Home

It is not known how many people were inside the home when the gunman struck.

Detectives from North East Leeds CID, led by Det Insp Nicola Briar

launched an investigation and cordoned off the house.

Forensic science experts and police scenes of crime officers were

called to carry out a detailed examination of the house and record the aftermath.

Other detectives carried out house-to- house inquiries in the search for witnesses to the shooting carried out in broad daylight.

Det Insp Briar described the shooting as an "isolated incident" and said that at this stage the motives for the attack were unclear. It was not being treated as a "random" attack.

"I can confirm that we are treating this offence with the utmost of seriousness," she said. It is understood that a senior detective is also helping to supervise the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information about those responsible or the motives is urged to ring North East Leeds CID on 0845 6060606.
