Peter Loveday started his teaching career in 1972 at the school.

Since that time he has taught hundreds of local children and been a much loved teacher known for his "eagle eyes and his super hearing"!

Many pupils have enjoyed his annual visits to Northumberland and Ingleborough Hall.

More than 200 past pupils, colleagues and friends attended an evening organised by the Friends of Manston St James where many happy memories were shared.

The present pupils put on a wonderful performance using Mr Loveday's teaching career as a theme.

There was laughter and tears as children interpreted some of their deputy head's little foibles! The staff also had a leaving party for him and he was presented with a watch and some garden furniture at the Leavers Service on the last day.

Mr Loveday has made a tremendous contribution to the school and the local community and he is wished a very happy retirement.
