'Outstanding' science classes earn Horsforth School first-rate report

Science staff and students at Horsforth School are celebrating a first-class report from Ofsted.

In the report on Horsforth School's science department pupils are praised for "outstanding" behaviour and their teachers commended for their classes' quality.

Inspectors said: "In all the lessons seen, the quality of teaching was good or better.

"Some of the lessons were outstanding, with very skilled and lively teaching engaging students very effectively."

They added: " Students describe the quality of teaching as at least good and much as outstanding.

"They value the way teachers demonstrate enthusiasm for science, provide a good variety of activity and ensure lessons are enjoyable."

Pupils recently travelled to the International Student Science Fair at Ritsumeikan University in Japan where they interacted with other international students and shared their scientific knowledge.

They were also attending the Otley Science Festival at Otley Courthouse, which ends on Sunday.

Coun Brian Cleasby (Lib Dem, Horsforth and a School Governor) said: "This is a great achievement for the school.

"Their science team have been working extremely hard with pupils to ensure lessons are fun and engaging."
