Olympian Jackson opens Moortown multi-faith centre

Olympian and former world record holder Colin Jackson helped launch a ground-breaking project at a Moortown school.

The 42-year-old 110m hurdler jumped at the chance of opening a new multi-faith centre at Allerton High in Moortown.

Colin, who presents BBC's Heaven and Earth TV show besides his many sports broadcasting roles, was shown around the facility before meeting a selection of the school's own sporting stars.

He also checked out some of the other resources in the 31m building that was opened by Gordon Brown last September.

Head teacher Elaine Silson told Moortown Today: "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome Colin Jackson and the students were very excited about meeting such a true sporting great.

"Our multi-faith centre is a unique resource in that we are the only

secondary school in the country to have one.

"It's been 14 years in the making and we are delighted it is now available for use by our community."
