North East Leeds: Play scheme kids look forward to theme park trip

Youngsters in north-east Leeds are set for a day to remember this summer holidays after funding has been agreed to take them to one of the country's premier theme parks.

Provided by the local Area Committee, the funding will be used to take over 200 children from local junior play schemes to Light Water Valley in August.

Children from Chapel Allerton, Potternewton, Scott Hall and Chapeltown will all benefit from this initiative.

Councillors Jane Dowson, Eileen Taylor and Mohammed Rafique are delighted that youngsters in the area will benefit from this day out.

Councillor Jane Dowson (Lib Dem, Chapel Allerton) said: "We are absolutely delighted that the day trip to Light Water Valley has finally been given the go-ahead. It will be a massive boost and a great experience for the youngsters who attend the play schemes in Chapel Allerton, Chapeltown, Potternewton and Scott Hall.

"Schemes such as these have a very important role in the local community by providing youngsters with a fun and friendly atmosphere where they can engage in recreational activities during the school holidays. The safe and secure environment that these schemes provide is also of great assurance for parents.

"We have pressed hard for this funding in recognition of the dedication and hard work that is put into these play schemes throughout the school holidays by the staff and volunteers who run them."
