The bins have been installed on Park Avenue, a road which suffers from a large amount of litter due to its proximity to Roundhay Park.

The three bins have been provided with money from Roundhay ward councillors' Members Improvements in the Community and the Environment (MICE) fund, which allows councillors to give discretionary payments for projects in their wards that benefit the local community.

All three bins sport plaques acknowledging the contribution the councillors have made in getting the bins installed, a process in which they have invested time and effort as well as their joint financial contribution.

Councillor Valerie Kendall (Con, Roundhay) told Roundhay Today:

"I'm delighted that we could use our MICE money to provide these litter bins. Hopefully they will have an immediate impact on the levels of litter in the area, which cause a real eyesore for residents and those people who visit the park."

Councillor Paul Wadsworth (Con, Roundhay):

"I'm extremely pleased that we have been able to provide these bins that will have such a positive effect on Park Avenue, helping to improve the appearance of what can be a litter hot-spot."

Councillor Matthew Lobley (Con, Roundhay):

"The siting of these bins on Park Avenue will hopefully encourage people who have carried their litter from the Park to deposit it correctly, instead of dropping it on Park Avenue and causing a mess for residents to deal with."
