Name change for Horsforth college?

A change of name could be on the cards for a Horsforth college if it is awarded university status.

Leeds Trinity & All Saints could be set to change its name to Leeds Trinity University College if it is successful in applying for the authority to award its own degrees.

Currently degrees awarded to students are from the University of Leeds but if the Privy Council agrees to the college's application it will receive Taught Degree Awarding Powers and become a university college in its own right.

Governors have agreed to the name change and the college is consulting with a wide range of organisations, both in the UK and abroad, about the proposed change.

Leeds Trinity principal Dr Freda Bridge said: "Awarding our own taught degrees and changing our name makes the status of the institution clear, both in the UK and internationally.

"The name reflects our Catholic heritage and our proud association with Leeds.

"This is a very exciting time for us and we look forward to hearing whether our application for university college status has been accepted."
