Movie shines spotlight on the lust taboo
PENSIONER passion will be one of the themes of a new film being made in Leeds.
Edith, a short film about love and loss, promises to focus on one of society's last taboos – romantic love and sex in old age.
Shooting on the twilight-years romance is due to begin on location in Sherburn in Elmet next month and the movie's student makers are now on the lookout for an actor from the area to play the male lead.
He will play opposite veteran actress Rita Davies, who has roles in The Da Vinci Code and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on her CV.
The film is being written, directed and produced by five students from the Northern Film School, an arm of Leeds Metropolitan University, as part of their final year project.
It tells the tale of a long-married couple in their 70s who are suddenly torn apart by fate but are reunited in an emotional and unusual climax.
The film makers say it will involve some intimate scenes which will smash the stereotypes.
Producer Kathryn Wilson, 24, said: "It's a celebration of love and it shows the real lives of older people rather then the stereotypes."
Filming begins in February for a week and the movie is expected to be completed by May. Kathryn and director Ian Pinder have spent much of the festive period researching the film and scouting locations, which they now think they have found in Sherburn in Elmet.
As well as an older male actor, the group are also looking for sponsorship from local businesses to cover catering and other overhead costs during the five to seven day shoot next month.
Any sponsors will get a full credit in the film's end titles.
Call Kathryn Wilson on 07595 766459 if you would like to audition for the male lead or if you can offer sponsorship.
