Matthew Browne: Cross Gates deputy head wins teaching 'Oscar'

A Cross Gates deputy head has scooped a teaching "Oscar" for dedication to his profession.

Matthew Browne, deputy head of Austhorpe Primary, was named a winner during the North of England finals of the annual Teaching Awards.

Mr Browne won the BT Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School. The parent who nominated him for described how pupils are enthused by his creative ideas and practical lessons,

From his first day at the school, which he joined last September, he set about creating a special learning environment, with colourful inspiring displays.

On one occasion, he came into a class dressed as Willy Wonka to inspire children to write with enthusiasm for a writing assessment.
