Marriage proposal for Roundhay Park's Mansion

Roundhay Park's Mansion may soon be licensed to conduct marriage ceremonies, including the new civil partnerships.

Dine, the company which was awarded the catering contract for the Mansion, has applied for approval. A decision will be made by the city council's licensing section.

But first such interested parties as the fire service, buildings inspector and registrar, have to visit the building to check that the necessary regulations are met and that the premises are suitable.

Councillor Valerie Kendall (Cons, Roundhay) said: "This is fantastic news. My eldest daughter had her reception there some years ago.

"I am sure people will come from beyond Leeds to get married there."
