Manston: A history of the parish church
Manston Parish Church on Church Lane/Sandbed Lane had the foundation stone laid on June 24, 1846 by Edward Waud who gave the land for the site.

The church, designed by Leeds architects Perkin and Backhouse, was paid for by the Rector of Barwick-in-Elmet, Rev W H Bathurst.

The church was consecrated on November 4, 1847 and the ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of Ripon, Dr C T Longley.
The site for the present church of St James the Great, Manston, was to the north-east of the present building and the foundation stone was laid on July 29, 1911. The church was consecrated on St James Day - Sunday July 25, 1913.
Increasing congregations led to the church being extended to the west and the Bishop of Ripon performed the dedication on July 7, 1962.
A year later the east window, designed by Harry Stammers, was installed in the church and on June 11, 1966 the new church hall was officially opened by the Bishop of Ripon.
