Make a tree-mendous effort for the environment
People are invited make a tree-mendous effort for the environment, by taking part in a 5k Tree-athlon at Temple Newsam Park.
Organised by the charity Trees for Cities, the Tree-Athlon on September 23, is a three-part event for tree lovers of all ages and levels of fitness.
It is made up of a 5km run, an urban 'tree wish' and a fashion swap.
Simply bring along a clean item of clothing you no longer want, and take away something you do! All left over clothes will be donated to a relevant charity.
Proceeds from the Tree-athlon will go towards the planting of new trees in Leeds and other cities around the world.
The event is particularly special as it is the first year an additional Tree–Athlon event has been organised outside London.

Last year the event raised 100,000 for tree planting work in needy urban areas from Elephant and Castle to Addis Ababa and was boosted by celebrity support from Alistair McGowan, Anthony Worrall Thompson, Gabby Logan, and Matt James.
Councillor John Procter, Leeds City Council executive board member for Leisure, said: "What a great way to get fit and healthy by running in our beautiful Temple Newsam Park, and at the same time raise money to plant trees in Leeds which will benefit all Leeds' citizens in terms of their future health and well being.
"We are pleased to be supporting this event and committing to match fund the monies raised to plant trees in Leeds."
The event will also have a range of other activities for tree-athletes and spectators including guided tree walks, massages, wood sculptures and face painting.
Registration costs 18 and participants receive a Tree–Athlon t-shirt, running bib with printed 'tree wish' and access to the fashion swap.
The Tree-Athlon has been made possible through the generous support of high profile sponsors: Alpro soya, Citi, Metro, Royal & SunAlliance, Russian Timber Group Limited and Thames Water.
Graham Simmonds, Trees for Cities' Chief Executive, said: "The Tree-Athlon is great way for people to do their bit for the environment whilst getting fit and having fun - and the funds raised will enable Trees for Cities to get lots more trees planted from parks in Leeds to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia".
