Lawnswood School: Pupils enjoy alternative sports day

Students from Lawnswood School were involved in an 'Alternative Sports Day' where they were given the opportunity to try out a huge range of unusual sporting activities.

These ranged from handball to tchoukball - pronounced 'chookball' - and fromdance to HALO!

The Year 7 students also had a session in a class room where they completed activities designed to teach them about healthy living.

The event was run by Laura Whiteley, Gordon Lazenby, Richard Ankers, Ian Davies and Alistair Young who are all students from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Alistair, who also works at Lawnswood School said: "This event was one of the largest events run through the sport and recreation development events management module"

The event took place with the assistance of more than20 further education students and sports coaches from across Yorkshire. It was a real success and even incorporated students fromYears 8 and 10 throughout the day.

AllYear 7 students completed questionnaires at the event with responses proving very positive.

One group said: "We enjoyed the day. The activities were fun and welearned how to workwell with other students. We'veimproved our fitness and health and think the event was brilliant!"
