Lawnswood School badminton team enjoy competition success

Lawnswood School enjoyed success when they took park in the recent Leeds Schools Badminton Championships.

There were seven players involved in the event including; Liam Cook (Year 7), Charlie Magee (Year 9), Penny Cartwright (Year 9), Sophie Ridley (Year 9), Robert Hainsworth (Year 10), Gabe Thompson (Year 11) and Andrew Thomson (Year 11).

The best results of the day came in the Under-16s double when Andrew Thomson and Robert Hainsworth finished in joint place with Gabe Thompson and Charlie Magee meaning that two of the top three male pairs from Leeds now come from Lawnswood. Charlie Magee also came second in the Under 14s singles.

This was the first tournament away from Lawnswood School where a female pair was entered and Sophie Ridley and Penny Cartwright played really well. The badminton club still needs more female players and training continues on a Monday after school every well.

The next tournament for most of the Lawnswood players is in Harrogate on March 16 and lets hope the success continues.
