Horsforth student triumphs in college's Dragons' Den

AMBITIOUS students at Leeds Trinity & All Saints College recently battled it out in a 'Dragons' Den' style competition.

Students with an entrepreneurial design for running their own businesses were invited to take part with a chance of scooping the 1,000 cash prize, which was organised by Yorkshire Forward.

Six students and recent graduates from Leeds Trinity were short listed and given 20 minutes to 'pitch' their ideas to the panel of judges;

Dean Maragh from The Watershed, Olivia Priestley and Gareth Allen from Barclays Bank, and Ian McGregor-Brown from Leeds Trinity, who were looking for the most promising business idea.

David Kenyon, a second year BSc Sport, Health, Exercise and Nutrition student, took the top prize with his business concept, Key Fitness.

Key Fitness is a personal trainer service for clients who need more than a weekly trip to the gym, offering nutrition and health advice alongside one to one self-defence classes, cardiovascular and resistance training.

Olivia Priestley, Local Business Manager, Barclays Bank said: 'The overall standards of the entrants were high, but the panel felt that Key Fitness was a great idea and the business plan demonstrated a strong understanding of the marketplace.'

David will be automatically entered into next years Regional Enterprise Awards, to compete against the winners from Higher Education Institutes across Yorkshire and Humberside.
