Horsforth's Featherbank Intants: Pupils learn to make cash go further

Pupils at a Horsforth school have been cashing in after learning how to make their money go a little bit further.

Featherbank Infants School children have been learning about the Free Cash 2 Kids scheme which was set up by Robertson Thomas Estate Agents to celebrate the opening of a new Nationwide Building Society in Horsforth.

The scheme enables children to set up savings accounts at a young age with the estate agents depositing the first pound.

Headteacher Kathie Rhodes said: "We are proud to be at the centre of the community here in Horsforth, and have taught generation after generation of the same family over the years.

"However, education goes well beyond the curriculum and it is our duty as a school to ensure children gather knowledge about finance at an early age to ensure economic welfare in future."

Director of Robertson Thomas, Tracey Hegarty, said: "We can't emphasise how important it is to teach your kids about money from an early age.

"Teaching them to save could ensure they don't get themselves into financial problems later in life. In no time at all they'll be going off to university, this way they may not need to take out a student loan."
