Horsforth Newlaithes Juniors were given the vests from local supplier Arco to help keep them safe during the winter months.

Headteacher Joanne Blacoe said: "These high visibility vests are an ideal accompaniment to the work we have been doing on pedestrian training, where children focus on safe routes when walking to and from school.

"Now that the days are growing shorter I feel reassured that more of our children can be seen and remain safe when walking home. Many thanks go to Arco and their kind gesture in providing all the pupils in Year 4 with a vest."

Alan Colquhoun, branch manager of Arco, said: "We take health and safety very seriously. It is important that children and adults are clearly seen as they travel to school or work, especially in the dark winter months."
