Horsforth girl brings Charlie Chaplin to life for charity film
"Just smile" is the message from a Leeds schoolgirl who has made her own Charlie Chaplin-style movie for Martin House Children's Hospice.
Bethany Hare, 10, has created an old-fashioned black and white slapstick film – with a re-make of the iconic song Smile as the backing track – in a bid to raise 5,500 for Martin House Children's Hospice.
The film features Bethany dressed as Chaplin and trying to make a white flower come back to life.
It is set firstly at Abbey House Museum in Kirkstall, Leeds, then in a corn field, before eventually finishing up at Martin House, in Boston Spa.
The film has now been made into a DVD and copies have been donated to Martin House to assist them in their fundraising appeals.
Bethany's mum Yvonne told the YEP: "Bethany found the field scene quite hard work as the corn had just been cut and was very sharp.
"Her legs were literally bleeding and she was crying. We told her to stop but she wouldn't.
"She was determined that she wanted this in her film and carried on. She is a little trooper."
Bethany, who has attended Scala Performing Arts in Horsforth for almost three years, worked on Emmerdale as an extra to fund the project and spent most of the summer and weekends since finishing it off.
The talented youngster, who attends Westbrook Lane Primary School, enlisted the services of music arranger Phil Steel and the Sound Sense recording studio to help her produce and record the backing track.
Despite doing more than most for the charity, Bethany is still worried about the children at the hospice ahead of the festive period.
She said: "I know everyone is worrying about Christmas and how expensive it is but when you think about the children and families at
Martin House, they will be worrying about if they will even be here to enjoy Christmas or if it will be their last one."
