Horsforth College unveils new plans

Leeds Trinity & All Saints College in Horsforth has unveiled plans to modernise its campus.

The Brownberrie Lane campus and its sixties-style buildings will be redeveloped as part of a bid to earn university status, but residents are worried that the extra students will add to the congested parking around the site.

The halls of residence will be demolished to make way for new accommodation, similar to the style of the newly built Trinity Close student accomodation on Westbrook Lane.

The exterior of The main building will also be renovated.

A spokeswoman for the college said: "The new development at the college will not reduce the number of car parking spaces and we have increased our car parking with the new Trinity Close development."

A planning application formore student accommodation was withdrawn because residents complained they were too near their homes. The new halls have been incorporated into the heart of the campus.

The college has also introduced a liaison group which will meet with the community

to discuss the plans.

A college spokeswoman said: "The community liaison group will give the chance for issues such as car parking and residents' concerns to be voiced and the key of this is to keep all of the groups involved with the process."

Coun Chris Townsley (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said: "The fact of thematter is there are a lot of questions that need answering and the college need to do it. They should open up and invite people there so then residents can see what is going on and

then we can move things forwards."

Resident David Dews, of Montfort Close, said: "Residents are obviously concerned

about the plans.

"First of all it is nice to see something put forward which is a five year plan and

we have been asking for this since 2004.

"We are concerned about the parking and if there are going to be more students

we justwant to know where they are going to go."

"However, there are still a lot of questions left unanswered so we are really wanting the college to have a more detailed consultation with us. The college has been here for a long time but the residents have also been here for a long time."
