The plans include refurbishing the main teaching block, knocking down two of the student halls of residence and building student accommodation in the heart of the campus.
The college is expecting to submit planning applications for the new scheme, which will cost in the region of 11m, this month and if they get the green light, work will be expected to start next year.
Mark Shields, assistant principal, spoke of his delight at the plans by local architects Farrell and Clark and said: "The demolition of two halls, which house around 200 students, will be replaced by 198 contained bed spaces.
"Student expectations have increased over the years and these buildings were fine for the Sixties but not for the 21st century.
"We are really pleased with the design and we are trying to retain the community feeling within the campus. The new building is in the heart of the campus and couldn't be further away from our neighbours."
If the plans are approved it could mean that the college could take delivery of the new residential building in August 2010 and work would be likely to start in April and May 2009.
The main teaching building will also be improved and this is expected to cost around 2m.
Mr Shields added: "The main building has already been completely refurbished inside and now the outside needs updating.
"In the sixties the exterior was really attractive and now we are hoping to restore the attractive characteristics that it would have had.
"The insulation is bad at the moment and we are hoping to give it a longer life by providing quality insulation.
"We are really pleased with the scheme but over the next three to five years I would expect further development to be fairly minimum."
