Horsforth: Builder breaks leg in scaffold accident

A teenage builder was taken to hospital with a broken leg after an accident on scaffolding in Horsforth.

The 16-year-old suffered a suspected fractured femur after a section of roof gable fell from a house on Lee Lane East.

The teenager was part of a team carrying out renovations on the property when the accident happened at 3.50pm today.

Emergency services launched an operation to rescue the lad, who was stuck on scaffolding around 25 feet off the ground.

Several fire crews attended the scene, including high level line rescue teams from Elland and Rawdon, the aerial platform team from Leeds and support crews from Cookridge and Stanningley. Police and paramedics were also called to the house.

The victim was eventually brought down using a basket stretcher and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

The Health and Safety Executive was due to be informed about the accident today.
