But police established that the young woman found on the pavement in Derwentwater Terrace, Headingley, Leeds, had fallen from a first-floor bathroom window.

Police said the matter was not being treated as suspicious.

Housemates named the injured woman as Chloe McDonna, a second-year degree student studying law at Leeds Metropolitan University.

She is believed have suffered a number of injuries including a fractured thigh bone and later underwent surgery after being admitted to Leeds General Infirmary.

A passer-by is believed to have found Chloe, 20, from Liverpool. She was lying on the pavement at the entrance to the small front garden of the detached house occupied by her and other other students, shortly before 3.17am on Sunday.

An ambulance was called and the injured student was taken to hospital.

The police were alerted and initial examination of her injuries suggested they may have been caused by being hit by a vehicle.

The area where Chloe was found on the pavement at the corner of Derwentwater Terrace and Ash Road,Headingley, was initially cordoned off by police along with part of Derwentwater Terrace until it was established her injuries were due to a fall.

Chloe's friends said that her family had been informed and had travelled from Liverpool to be at her bedside. They said her condition was understood to be improving.
