Headingley Development Trust given more time to work on community centre plans
Headingley Development Trust have been given a further two months to work on plans for HEART - an ambitious new community centre for the suburb.
The council's executive board decided on Tuesday to reject officer recommendations that Headingley Primary School should be put up for sale.
The Trust had been given six months to work exclusively on plans for the Headingley Enterprise and Arts Centre, working on a business model and attempting to find funding for the scheme.
Coun David Morton (Lib Dem, Headingley ) said: "I attended the Executive Board meeting and I'm very encouraged at the result.
"Council officers may see it as just another building to be sold. However, to Headingley residents Headingley Primary School is a resource at the Heart of the community.
"We now have another two months to make the figures add up and make the case for regeneration of the area."
In the meeting the board told council officers to work closely with the Trust in putting together a viable scheme.
They have been asked to report back to the board in two months.
